Downline building is a business. Downline builders who know how to build downlines are a rare breed. Out of the millions of people who choose network marketing or mlm as a home based business, a few people stand out in the industry and make a name for themselves.

Some good and some bad.

This is not to say network marketing is bad or does not work, it is like anything else. Most people fail at sports, job promotions and even starting a business.
